SIERRA LEONE FOUNDATION FOR NEW DEMOCRACY

OUR PURPOSE

Sierra Leone Foundation for New Democracy works in partnership with communities to build the foundation for citizens of all ages to deliberate and enact new, non-adversarial alternatives that nurture democratic relationships and decision making among and across individuals, families, institutions, and the environment.

OUR DREAM

Connectedness among peoples and the earth, wounds healing, creativity flowing

We are looking for volunteers who are interested in event planning! As we grow as an organization and support self sufficiency, we want to plan events where we can tell the SLFND story in a meaningful way through events such as Walk for a Child and a photo exhibit. We are looking for 2-5 hours a month-we would welcome any support offered as we grow our community. Events would include our Walk for a Child that takes place in Sierra Leone, fundraisers, and educational community events including on education.

Mission Statement

Sierra Leone Foundation for New Democracy (SLFND), mission is to work in partnership at the village level to nurture democratic relationships, build local resilient institutions and incorporate ecologically sustainable principles into the work,

Description

My name is Hindolo Pokawa; I founded a small, grassroots 501(c) 3 non-profit organization in Minnesota called Sierra Leone Foundation for New Democracy (SLFND), to engage others in the US and in Africa in establishing a sustainable-based preschool in rural farming communities in Sierra Leone. The preschool-building projects, both through hands-on construction work in Sierra Leone and through fundraising have achieved greater impact for the long-term sustainability for about 250 children in our first village in Sierra Leone. (www.slfnd.org). especially with gardening/farming to replace the failing slash and burn tradition thereby increasing food production to feed children twice daily- four days a week, and to provide critical literacy, that would support cognitive skills, fine motor skills, social skills and developmental skills for children ages 2-5.
