As a Front Desk Assistant volunteer with our Financial Opportunities department, you will create a welcoming environment for our clients by greeting, answering questions, and learning about our programs to become an ambassador of Community Action. We will coach and train you to make sure you’re successful and feel confident to make an impact as a volunteer!

If you're interested in learning more about social service impact, improving your customer service skills, and gain professional office development, this position is perfect for you.

Responsibilities of a Front Desk Assistant Volunteer:

  • Greet visitors to the department and direct them to the correct staff member
  • Answer questions and provide general information about programs
  • May assist with light administrative tasks such as scanning or mail sorting
  • Other projects provided based on volunteer interest

Education & Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must enjoy interacting with people of diverse backgrounds, education, economic status, and culture
  • Fluency in English language (written and spoken). Bilingual in Hmong, Karen, Nepali, Somali, Spanish or another language is desired but not required.

Abilities & Skills: In order to be successful in this position, the volunteer will at minimum need to possess the following abilities and skills:

  • Superb customer service skills
  • Ability with computer functions, filing and other office skills
  • Able to work independently after task described, and ask for help when needed
  • Must be comfortable interacting with people of diverse backgrounds, education, economic status, and culture
  • Fluency in English language (written and spoken). Bilingual in Hmong, Karen, Nepali, Somali, Spanish or another language desired but not required

Time Commitment:

Office is open from 8:00am to 4:30pm, Mon-Fri. This opportunity can start as early as May or be flexible as a summer opportunity. Actual volunteer dates and hours are very flexible!
