G.I.R.L. Create Artists

ORGANIZATION: Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA

We’re inviting artists (all mediums, teens and older) to join Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA to share their passion as we launch arts programming to Girl Scouts. The day will include:

  • Remarks from Caldecott Author Jen Bryant.
  • Each volunteer artist sharing their art, and the story behind it answering the question, "What do I have to say to my community through my art?" with a small group of Girl Scouts.
  • Each volunteer artist facilitating an art project with a small group of Girl Scouts (details of the project to come, we like to keep some surprises for Girl Scouts). The goal of the project will encourage girls to reflect on what they want to say about themselves to their community. Who are they? What are they most proud of? How are they, as Girl Scouts, a force in their community?
  • Celebration of Girl Scouts and volunteer artists’ artwork.
  • And of course - free lunch and Girl Scout swag!

Mission Statement

"Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place."

Description

Founded in 1912, Girl Scouts of the USA is the preeminent organization for girls with a current membership of 3.6 million girls and adults. Volunteers use their expertise, skills, interests, and life experience to shape fun and enriching leadership experiences for girls, and inspire them to reach their personal best. Volunteers help council staff facilitate the New Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls through exciting program opportunities: leadership/self-esteem, financial literacy, travel, health/wellness, science, technology, engineering, and math. Volunteers choose from several flexible Pathways (the ways that girls and adults join Girl Scouting) that fit their lifestyles, including short-term or long-term service working either directly or indirectly with girls, and they can participate regionally, nationally, and internationally.
