Cultivate Abundance is looking for volunteer help with a community garden in Immokalee. Volunteers will assist Cultivate Abundance staff in general gardening work including harvesting and weighing produce. This opportunity is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays by prior arrangement only (to ensure Cultivate Abundance staff are on hand).

No specific skills are needed though proficiency in Spanish or Haitian Creole is beneficial. Volunteers should be comfortable working outside in the normal heat and humidity of SW Florida.

Mobilizing appropriate resources to eliminate hunger and enable small-scale food production in vulnerable households and communities.

Description

Cultivate Abundance is a faith-based organization addressing food insecurity and other livelihood challenges in low income, migrant farmworker communities.

  • Cultivate Abundance equips and mobilizes a growing alliance of Southwest Florida gardeners (i.e., home and community gardens) to grow and harvest food for the benefit of the local farmworker population.
  • We offer technical assistance to local agencies (i.e., nonprofits, congregations, schools) that extend appropriate social services to migrant workers in Immokalee, Florida, specifically through community gardening efforts as well as providing remote assistance for similar endeavors in more distant locations.
  • Cultivate Abundance addresses food insecurity and other livelihood challenges in farmworker source countries in Central America and the Caribbean, and elsewhere, by offering advisory services for agencies serving communities of smallholder farmers and gardeners.
