Assist summer program educators with daily teaching and management of camp, including demonstrations, helping students with activities and questions, preparation, and clean up.

Tasks typical during a summer camp include:

  • Working with staff, primarily the Discovery Camp Coordinator and Summer Program Educators, to assist with the summer camp experience and activities;
  • Guiding a small group of students through observational and hands on activities;
  • Keeping students on track and investigating questions together;
  • Preparing supplies and assisting with activity setup before the start of camp;
  • Modeling or prompting proper use of museum supplies and redirecting behaviors that could damage supplies or exhibits;
  • Intervening to prevent behaviors which may not be safe to other students;
  • Most importantly: HAVING FUN!

Open to ages 14-19. Applicants should be highly motivated, have a passion for teaching and play, and serve as a positive role model for students. Summer Camp Aides create an engaging atmosphere for visitor interaction and facilitate hands-on activities and demonstrations. Aides must be able to spark excitement, curiosity and inquiry among students by reflecting their enthusiasm for the content, and passion for learning.

Aides must be comfortable working with children who are 3-15 years old. Comfort with leading a small group of students and following a presentation format or content objectives is important. Previous experience facilitating learning activities or programs is helpful, but not required. Flexibility to assist with various program topics and a desire to learn are important. Aides must be patient, outgoing and cheerful with parents and their students.
