Uhuru Foods & Pies has an internship opportunity available for a kitchen co-coordinator in our commercial kitchen in Alameda.

Do you like to prep food, cook and bake? Or do you want to learn how or gain more experience in a real commercial kitchen?

Become an intern in our kitchen every Friday where we prepare African comfort food for our food booth at the Grand Lake Farmer’s Market. You will gain experience in food prep, cooking and baking and obtain references for future employment.

We will be making anything from Jerk chicken and Jerk Sauce, baking sweet potato and berry pies, and mixing our homebrewed Sorrel (Jamaica juice) and ginger beer.

Uhuru Foods & Pies is one of the economic institutions of Black Star Industries (BSI) and it is about putting the means to grow, produce and distribute fresh food into the hands of African people.

The vision of Uhuru Foods & Pies includes the goal for Africans to control their own land, farms, trucking, baking, cooking and distribution of food, none of which African people are currently able to carry out on a large scale inside the U.S., Africa or anywhere in the world today. This is what prosperity and self-determination for present and future generations of African people worldwide will look like.

This internship is every Friday from 2 - 6 pm at our kitchen in Alameda.
