Nonprofit Administrative Volunteer - Position Description
Position Title: Nonprofit Administrative Volunteer
Reports To: Program Manager, Executive Director
Direct Reports: None
Position Status: Part-time (5-10 hours per week)
Organization Summary
ArtWorks for Milwaukee’s mission is strengthening Milwaukee’s workforce through arts internships that help teens develop career skills .
In a city working to overcome generations of trauma, poverty, high unemployment, and segregation, Milwaukee youth deserve our attention. ArtWorks provides high school students with paid and unpaid internships in the arts. These internships include mentorship from professional artists, creative independent and collaborative projects, engagement with community issues, one-on-one learning, and exposure to workforce skills.
ArtWorks has a three-tiered structure, beginning with an introductory unpaid internship, followed by an intermediate paid internship, and ending with a paid entrepreneurship internship. Every ArtWorks internship is designed to help teens develop the 21st century skills, transferable job skills that are critical to today’s working world. Each internship also includes reflection, self-evaluation, and formal feedback to measure the interns’ understanding, demonstration, and application of 21st century skills.
Range of responsibilities, depending on volunteer's skills, interests, and availability:
Marketing:
- Post on social media
- Help create e-newsletter
- Prepare promotional materials
Event Coordination:
- Help coordinate summer events and fundraisers
- Contribute to creating event flyers
Fundraising support:
- Enter data in client management database
- Contribute to grant preparation
Administrative:
- File documents
- Monitor voicemails
- General office support
Program Support:
- Schedule interview and hire notification calls
- Print, organize, and file on-boarding documents
- Contribute to lead artist training and intern orientation
- Support lead artist in delivering program plan
- Communicate with program staff and participants as needed
- Participate in weekly program meetings
- Assist in identifying areas of improvement
- Observe programs using rubric
- Assist in coordinating end-of-season events
- Assist in identifying areas of improvement
- Gather end-of-season evaluations
Experience/Qualifications (preferred)
- Experience working with youth, particularly youth of color
- Experience working with spreadsheets
- Cultural competency to work well with all communities and individuals
- Familiarity with working in a nonprofit environment
- Familiarity with business and entrepreneurship
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills while working on a team
- Ability to attend programs during after-school hours and/or occasional weekends

Description
2021 marks ArtWorks' 20th anniversary of providing teens with paid, skill-building internships in the arts. Over 1,400 high school students have completed Artworks ’ internships during this time. Each year, ArtWorks ’ interns work on murals, videos, and other projects which strengthen their confidence and work ethic, and provide outlets for positive creative expression. These projects also contribute to the quality of life in our community with the addition of public art and positive perceptions of the city ’ s youth. ArtWorks is often a student ’ s first job experience and gives them a safe and nurturing space to learn, test, and develop skills that are critical to today ’ s workforce: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, innovation, problem solving, and creativity.
