ORGANIZATION: Graze in Peace

Graze in Peace, a non-profit farm animal sanctuary, has launched our humane education program to engage middle and high school youth in farm animal care and educational topics. We are looking for volunteers to help facilitate this new program. We're currently looking for experienced educators to help write and research new curriculum. Other volunteers are needed to help with outreach activities in the schools as well as on-site after school programming and group activities and tours at the farm.

Our mission is to inspire a compassionate, healthy and earth-friendly way for all beings to live together. An ideal candidate would have a passion for education and farm animals, proven communication and writing skills, plus an interest in our mission and values.

Required experience:

  • Comfortable speaking to groups and leading structured activities
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with children and adults
  • Background or education in any of the following preferred: teaching, animal care, camp counseling, social work
  • Some weekday after-school availability to host students

Description

Graze in Peace is a farm animal sanctuary and learning center located on 20 acres just north of Portland, Maine. Our current rescued residents include chickens, turkeys, pigs, goats, sheep and llamas. Along with sanctuary to over 60 farmed animals, we offer humane education, community outreach, and therapeutic Care Farm activities where displaced, disadvantaged or disabled people can come use the therapeutic setting of our rescue farm as a place for healing and learning.
