Description
If you would like to learn more about The Salvation Army, you have come to the right place.
Bells and red kettles. Thrift stores. The red shield. These are the most common images people have of The Salvation Army. But look behind the red shield and you will find that we offer a wide array of programs catering to the needs of children, families, the elderly and individuals. The Salvation Army was founded by William Booth, a Methodist minister, in London in 1865 and provides services to people in over 100 countries around the world.
The basic social services developed by William Booth have remained an outward visible expression of the Army's strong religious principles. In addition, new programs that address contemporary needs have been established. Among these are disaster relief services, child care centers, summer camps, holiday assistance, services for the aging, AIDS education and residential services, medical facilities, shelters for battered women and children, family and career counseling, vocational training, correction services, and substance abuse rehabilitation. Each year, more than 30 million people receive services provided by The Salvation Army.
