We’re looking for an intern based in NYC to join our team during the Summer 2019 to support our fundraising efforts. The intern will join our executive director in-person at AsylumConnect’s NYC office based at the Urban Justice Center in lower Manhattan. The development intern will be involved in all aspects of AsylumConnect’s development strategy, including foundation research and relations, corporate sponsorship, individual donor prospects research and outreach, and special events planning. This a fantastic opportunity to develop your nonprofit fundraising skills to support LGBTQ and asylum rights.

Responsibilities:

  • Report (and work closely with) AsylumConnect’s Executive Director.
  • Help to identify, research and make contact with key donor prospects in NYC.
  • Cultivate a portfolio of priority donor prospects and relationships in the NYC area.
  • Assist with donor communication through email campaigns, annual donor reports, etc.
  • Support foundations grants through research, drafting letters of inquiry and proposals.
  • Support corporate sponsorship thr ough researching LGBTQ-friendly corporate partners.
  • Assist with planning an in-person fundraising event in NYC to reach new donors.
  • Perform other related development duties as requested.

Qualifications:

  • Based in the NYC area for Summer 2019 (exact dates negotiable). Tentative schedule: 10am - 5pm ET, Monday through Friday at AsylumConnect’s office at the Urban Justice Center in lower Manhattan.
  • Obtained or pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree (e.g. M.B.A., J.D., M.S.).
  • Strong interpersonal and grant writing skills.
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to the nonprofit sector.
  • Experience with online communication tools (e.g. G Suite, Slack, Zoom, Asana Project Management).
  • Passion for LGBTQ rights and/or immigration.
  • Note: This internship is unpaid. Interns will have the opportunity to receive a letter of reference from AsylumConnect’s executive director upon successful completion of the internship.
