Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as the Shipboard Education Intern. The Shipboard Education Intern works closely with Mildred Belle crew and the Director of Shipboard Education to implement shipboard education programs and assist with the boat's operation and maintenance. High energy, dedication, enthusiasm, flexibility, organization and a hard-work ethic are required. Living Classrooms will provide training in all curriculum areas, as well in vessel management and general boat handling skills.

The position will be unpaid, part-time or full-time, up to 40 hours/week. The position will run for spring (April-June), summer (July-August) and fall (September-October). Or we are able to host an intern for the duration of the season (April - October 2019).

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills
  • A passion for nature and working with children in an informal setting
  • Experience working on or around boats, or a willingness to be trained
  • Attention to detail and a high motivation to learn
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team
  • A high school senior or college student with an interest in education, environmental science, conservation, or other biology/ecology related field
  • Able to commit to at least one weekday shift from 8am-4pm.
