During these uncertain times, how can we help?
See below to access our COVID-19 Resource Hub, and to explore our growing directory of COVID-19-specific and virtual volunteering opportunities.
Bandar and Bhaaloo needs volunteers who have some skill with sewing and would love to put their talents to good use by creating whimsical one-of-a-kind stuffed animals. If you can provide the sewing machine, we will provide the materials (your selection of pattern - bear, elephant, bunny, rhinoceros, etc.; fabric; stuffing; etc.). The fabrics we use are donated saris (or other Indian clothing), usually silk, cotton, or rayon, and often with beautiful patterns and embellishments. It's up to you to be creative, using the fabric in a way that gives each animal its unique personality. Bandar and Bhaaloo animals are not toys (although they are very irresistable); they are designed to be loved and admired! All profits from the sale of these animals on our website (https://bandarandbhaaloo.org) or through other venues go to fund the secondary education of girls in India.

Bandar and Bhaaloo is a non-profit whose mission is to provide funding for the secondary education of girls in India. Its business model is to generate funds through the sale of one-of-a-kind soft sculpture animals, made of donated Indian saris and sewn by volunteers. Sold through low-cost channels and minimizing administrative costs, profits are optimized and directed to high impact, proven educational partners in India. Secondary education plays an important role in arming girls and women with the necessary knowledge, attitudes and skills to make qualitative improvements to their lives.
Launched in 2018, Bandar and Bhaaloo has an ambitious plan to design, create and sell beautiful one-of-a-kind stuffed animals, in order to support the secondary education of girls in India. Girls in India face a distinctive set of barriers to learning, especially when they reach post-primary levels of education. It takes between $300 - $500 to send a girl to secondary school for a year. Making and selling just 10 of our special animals would fund a girl for one year! With volunteer sewers and donated saris, our costs are very low - thereby maximizing our profits. Volunteers will know where their efforts go - what schools and what girls are supported. Our ambition is to have 100 girls graduate from secondary school by 2025.
We'll work with your schedule.
