Earth Celebrations’ Ecological City is a cultural and environmental action project culminating in a 6-hour procession on Saturday, May 11 from noon-6pm, connecting local initiatives to city and global climate challenges. The day-long ecological urban pilgrimage features giant puppets and spectacular costumes and musical bands with 20 site performances celebrating the myriad climate solutions being designed and implemented throughout the community gardens, neighborhood and East River Park waterfront on the Lower East Side of New York City.

Join Earth Celebrations’ Art-Build Workshops this Wednesday to help create some of the spectacular costumes for the Ecological City Climate Solutions Procession that will take place on May 11.

WHAT WE'LL BE DOING:

During this workshop, we will be helping the artists in charge create the beautiful puppets that will be used during the procession on May 11th. Don’t worry if you aren’t artistic, there will be plenty of guidance and help on site!

EARTH CELEBRATIONS: Earth Celebrations is dedicated to fostering ecological awareness and reviving the arts at the center of community life. Earth Celebrations innovative environmental and arts programs include: theatrical pageants, exhibitions, performances, art & ecology/puppet & costume workshops, internships, artist residencies, and partnerships with schools, community centers, and gardens. For 15 years Earth Celebrations produced the popular Rites of Spring: Garden Pageant and Winter Pageant on the Lower East Side, which engaged over 5,000 participants annually, and led to the preservation of many of the community gardens on the Lower East Side and throughout New York City

Mission Statement

One Brick creates a community of volunteers by offering fun opportunities for individuals to serve local nonprofits. We provide a calendar of volunteer and social events to help people get involved, have an impact, and have fun, without the requirements of long term commitments.

Description

One Brick is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization (Federal ID: 77-0593889) that is a community of volunteers that support other local nonprofits by creating a friendly and social atmosphere around volunteering. After each volunteer event our volunteer team invites everyone to gather at a local restaurant or coffee shop where they can get to know one another in a relaxed social setting. Additionally we host regular social events for our volunteers to connect to one another and to welcome new volunteers to our community.

We provide a flexible way for you to volunteer where and when you want.

The Impact of One Brick

One Brick currently operates in eight chapters nationwide: San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Washington DC, Seattle, Silicon Valley, Boston, and National.

The One Brick model has been hugely successful! Since we started, One Brick volunteers have contributed 630,000 hours to the communities we serve.

What makes us special is that One Brick chapters are 100% volunteer-run! We have no chapter based employees... we don't even maintain offices! In fact, on a national level, One Brick has only one employee.

But we DO have a lot of dedicated volunteers who make it all happen. And we're always looking for more people like YOU to join us!
