ORGANIZATION: International Focus, Inc.

International Focus is looking for host families in the Raleigh area in which at least one member of the home speaks some Arabic to provide a home away from home for 1 or 2 international students for 2 weeks.

We are facilitating a learning exchange for 14 students (ages 13-18) from Iraq, some of whom do not speak much English. They are studying entrepreneurship. These students have been selected to come here based upon their leadership skills and have been thoroughly vetted by the US State Department.

Host Families would need to provide a place for them to sleep, breakfast each day, some dinners, and transportation to and from a central location for their weekday activities. Host families do not have to have teens living in the home, but if they do, the host siblings are welcome to participate in any or all of the activities of the group.

For more information, please reply to this posting or call Maria Adoskina at 919-782-0552 or MAdoskina@InternationalFocusNC.org.

Mission Statement

International Focus is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to promote mutual understanding between North Carolina’s Triangle Region and the international community through education, economic and cultural exchange, arts, and the celebration of achievements.

Description

International Focus supports multiculturalism and international exchange through the International Visitors' Leadership Programs, the Community Connections Programs, and the Open World Programs. International Focus also promotes diversity via its newsletters, collaborations, workshops, resources, and its flagship event, the International Festival of Raleigh, considered to be a key component of the Triangle’s cultural and artistic offerings. The event showcases music, dance, cuisine, art, and cultural education from 55 diverse cultures, and welcomes 30,000 visitors annually.

We continue to welcome new ethnic communities to our network as the Triangle’s population expands; and we are honored to be the area’s pivotal connector for cross-cultural understanding and respect.
