Quick Overview: Our nonprofit, Cayenne Wellness Center, is seeking a volunteer Social Media Specialist. We are looking for a dedicated volunteer to help us stay connected with the Sickle Cell Disease community and keep them engaged and informed about educational, research development, advocacy, and support resources through email marketing and social media marketing. The ideal candidate will have experience developing and executing a digital marketing strategy and content calendar.

Cayenne Wellness Center and Children’s Foundation (CWC), a 501(c)3 organization, was founded in 2000 to meet the needs of adults with sickle cell disease (SCD), the SCD community of caregivers, healthcare providers, and social support organizations. Sickle Cell Disease is a rare disease that affects a population that is both diverse and marginalized. As part of the Sickle Cell Community, Cayenne Wellness Center offer workshops, seminars, and attends several community events to raise awareness about Sickle Cell Disease (SCD).

Mission: CWC’s mission is to increase the quality of life for individuals diagnosed with SCD in California by ensuring expert, unbiased, accessible, and comprehensive care. This mission is part of a broader vision of (1) a medical system that effectively addresses the unique needs of individuals with SCD, and (2) empowered patients equipped to advocate for themselves.

Responding to a lack of services and programs, CWC was the first organization to serve adults living with SCD in Southern California and quickly developed a statewide reputation for providing support and education. Before 2005, SCD awareness activities did not exist in California. In 2005, CWC organized the Unveil Sickle Cell Project and implemented the first Annual SCD Educational Seminar; moderated the only California support group; and invited the SCD community to advocate on behalf of patients navigating stigmatization and racial injustice while seeking unbiased and evidence-based care.

Through social media, we are aiming to create awareness for our nonprofit and raise funds for our programs!.

Impact: Social media posts on FB, IG, and LinkedIn have been increasing traffic and getting us increased views on our YouTube channel. We aim to continue and build upon this early progress.

Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities: Create and schedule weekly posts and follow up on platforms to further engage people to discover us. We expect the Social Media Specialist to spend around 5-7 hours a week creating/scheduling posts and following up on social media. This role is volunteer-to-start with potential to transition to a paid position within the organization that offers lots of opportunities for growth. We're also looking for dedicated individuals that can help our team spread the word (social media), seek grants, build donor relations, create & solidify agendas, and organize major events.

Requirements : Social media and marketing experience, Canva, Adobe, platforms such as Vertical Response, Mailchimp, or Constant Contact, creating Instagram reels, and other editing social media platform experience.

Accessibility : This volunteer opportunity is 100% remote. Minimum 6 months commitment.
