Medical Volunteer - One Week Summer Camp

Are you an experienced healthcare professional, looking to make a difference in the lives of siblings separated by foster care, while spending a week in the beautiful Berkshires?

Sibling Connections ( www.siblingconnections.org ) works year-round to connect brothers and sisters who have been separated by foster care by hosting monthly Sibling Sunday events (Boston, Springfield, and Lowell), Sibling Weekend Retreats, and a week of Camp to Belong (CTB) in Pittsfield, MA in August.

We are searching for a volunteer medical staff (MD, RN, PA, NP) to attend our 15th summer of Camp to Belong! We invite 100+ siblings aged 6-20 to attend a week of both traditional summer camp activities and specialized sibling repair activities. Volunteers arrive for a mandatory two-day training on Wednesday, August 19th. Our siblings arrive on Friday, August 21st, and we all depart on Wednesday, August 26th.

CTB Massachusetts’ medical volunteers’ duties will include: camper intake (mainly lice checks and treatments as needed), medication administration, triage and basic first aid, one or two nights as the "on-call" staff member, and of course, to respond to any medical emergencies that arise.

You will be volunteering with two experienced healthcare professionals who have been with CTB-MA for a number of years and can answer any questions you may have! During the week at camp, you will be reporting to the medical director, but working mostly as a cohesive team.

There will also be break time for the volunteer to enjoy camp activities (ie waterslides, ropes course, boating, arts and crafts, etc.), get to know the campers, or have personal time (exercise, nap, etc) - we want this volunteer experience to be a balance between work and play!

We look forward to working with you!

Mission Statement

Sibling Connection supports the creation of enduring family relationships and community connections for sisters and brothers experiencing foster care in Massachusetts. Our work is accomplished through innovative programs and practices restoring and strengthening the lives of siblings who have been separated when placed in the foster care system.

Description

Sibling Connections supports siblings separated by the public foster care system in Massachusetts. There are over 10,000 youth in foster care, and often siblings are separated due to the lack of foster homes available that are able to home all siblings. Children in foster care who have access to their families report improved social, emotional and behavioral well being. We support family connections through three programs:
-Sibling Sundays is a program we offer from Oct - May which allows siblings to get together about once a month with their siblings to spend time and enjoy an activity together for 3-4 hours. We operate Sibling Sundays in the Greater Boston area, Lowell, and Springfield.
-Camp Sibling Connections is a week-long camp located in Smithfield, Maine in which 115 siblings come together for a week of fun.
-Weekend Retreats allow siblings to spend a weekend together building their relationships and enjoying activities that typical siblings would experience.

Sibling Connections is supported by the volunteer support of over 100+ individuals statewide and are the backbone of our organization. So often, kids in the foster care are supported by adults in who are paid to do so. Our kids treasure the time with a caring adult who is choosing to be a part of their lives because they care about them. Please consider becoming a Sibling Connections family member today!
