Session 1: Structural Pruning
10:00-12:30 pm
Would you like to learn how to prune young trees in your yard? Pruning trees during their first few years, is critical to long-term health and vitality. In this interactive workshop, you’ll learn the art, science, and skill of young tree pruning with Canopy’s Program Director, Michael Hawkins, and other expert arborists. No prior experience necessary; we welcome all skill levels. Focus will be on pruning young shade trees, but concepts can be transferred to more mature trees and some fruit trees.
Session 2: Hands-on Practice
12:30-2:00 pm
Gain additional pruning practice with on-the-spot coaching from skilled arborists. This practice will prepare you to volunteer with Canopy as a Pruning Leader to help maintain hundreds of recently planted trees in schools, parks, and public spaces in Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, and surrounding areas. By joining our team, you can provide an invaluable service to the community, laying the groundwork for a healthy, vibrant urban forest that will benefit the community for decades to come. Additional instruction will be available at follow up tree care workdays.
Attend Session 1, 2, or both.
