Family Volunteer Program

We are excited to continue this volunteer initiative at the Memphis Zoo: Family Volunteering! Families are as busy as they have ever been and finding time together is a priority. Traditional volunteer opportunities have not been available for all ages, so now the Memphis Zoo would like to encourage volunteers of any age to spend time contributing service to the Zoo with their families. This is an opportunity to spend quality time together as well as volunteering time to benefit our community and our animals.

Our Family Volunteer Days will take place from 10 am - 12 pm on a pre-selected day each month.

Join us as we prepare enrichment items for our animals, prep a pollinator garden, learn about biofatcs, and so much more.

Environmental enrichment enhances the quality of care for our animals by identifying and providing stimuli for psychological and physiological well-being. Our goal is to encourage natural behaviors through the use of enriching "toys" and other objects.

Pollinator gardens improve the quality of our communities and ensure the sustainability of our natural resources.

Biofacts are one tool used while teaching about conservation. If you do not know about it, you will not love it. If you do not love it, yo will not seek to save it.

We encourage you to come back and see our animals enjoying (and sometimes destroying!) your creations . Take a moment to smell the flowers in a beautiful garden you helped create, or recall the info learned about our animals through biofacts and other tools.

Who can participate: any family group - all ages welcome

When: Monthly 10am- 12pm

Commitment level: Come and go between 10:00 and 12:00

How do we sign up: Email us at volunteer@memphiszoo.org with the names and ages of each participant. Be sure to let us know if you have participated previously, you may already be in our system and have a waiver on file. Make sure the Subject line read "Family Volunteer Day"
