The Irish International Immigrant Center seeks a highly motivated and organized person who can instruct English language learners in our Career Advancement (Computer Skills) courses. The Lead Computer Teacher will be responsible for teaching the students in the class, who will be immigrants and non-native English speakers. Topics to be taught include, but at not limited to: internet research and navigation, email 101, resume and other job-readiness document creations and edits, basic Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Apps, and typing skills.

This position offers a wonderful opportunity for someone interested in immigration or social justice to become part of a team of people dedicated to helping newcomers to this country. This is a chance to make a difference in the lives of immigrants and to gain an appreciation for diverse cultures while being part of an organization strongly rooted in its Irish culture.

Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week, one evening a week (Class is scheduled for Thursday evening,
from 6-8pm) for 10 weeks

Start date: ASAP

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • High level of knowledge and comfort with basic computer skills and applications, including Microsoft Office products, and Google Apps.
  • Possess the ability to convey this knowledge to others

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Ability to be patient with students who have accents and/or do not speak English fluently
  • Ability to work well with other volunteers/instructors
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills necessary
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and work independently
  • An ability and enthusiasm to pass on knowledge of computers to others
  • Bilingual helpful, but not required
  • A commitment to the overall mission and values of IIIC
