We are seeking a Social Media Manager (or small team) to help promote our music festival and the bands selected to participate. This job includes gathering social media tags for all participants, attending concert events, taking creative and interesting photos, creating compelling photo collages, posting to social media, and tagging participants and sponsors. There are four Preliminary Concerts (May 31, June 7, June 14, June 21) and our Grand Finale (July 4). Additionally, we require assistance getting the word out to potential bands to apply to participate.

The Bitter Jester Music Festival (BJMF) is the Midwest's largest professional music competition for rising-star musicians (bands and solo artists alike). BJMF supports and promotes young and emerging talent from across Illinois and Wisconsin. The competition gives participating young adults an opportunity to receive professional feedback from working musicians and, most importantly, meet and connect with dozens of other musicians their own age. Additionally, performers get to work hand-in-hand with Bitter Jester Studio’s eight-time Emmy award winning production team, providing the competitors with a level of media exposure, professional mentorship, and networking that is unmatched by other similar competitions.

Currently, the event has four preliminary competitions on consecutive Fridays in the summer at Port Clinton Square in downtown Highland Park, IL. A winner is selected by qualified judges each Friday to compete in the Grand Finale Concert. After all four preliminary competitions, judges and Bitter Jester staff decide on four "Wild Card" bands that will also compete for the title at a Grand Finale concert on July 4 leading up to the City of Highland Park's fireworks display. Showcase bands are also selected to perform on the big stage prior to the battle on the 4th of July.

Mission Statement

The Bitter Jester Foundation for the Arts, NFP (BJFA) was established to produce live music and theatrical productions of new and classic works as well as other forms of literary/performing/media/audio/visual arts and other forms of entertainment. BJFA works with youth, specifically teens, to help build their confidence and experiences through art, especially music performance and original composition. BJFA also works to strengthen the arts, support emerging artists of all ages, and encourage persons to enter the arts by providing scholarships and grants to fine and applied arts students.

Description

BJFA promotes the benefits of the arts to the general public. Specific programs include the 20-year-old Comic Thread sketch comedy troupe (www.ComicThread.com), the 14-year-old Bitter Jester Music Festival (www.BitterJesterMusic.org) for youth across the Midwest, and the 13-year-old Purple Shirts ensemble (www.BitterJesterFoundation.org), performing live written works for intimate events. Future programs include the Bitter Jester Theatre Company to produce the original work of emerging Chicago playwrights and LaughLab, a behind-the-scenes podcast on how comedy is built. Partnerships include the City of Highland Park, IL (supporting the Bitter Jester Music Festival), Navy Pier (hosting Best Of showcase concerts of Music Festival winners), Ravinia (providing donated concert tickets for Music Fest winners & audience members), and many others! BJFA is supported, in part, by grants from YEA! Highland Park and the Highland Park Community Foundation as well as donations and volunteer support from people like you!
