About Us

H.Y.P.E. to Empower, Inc. aims to transform the lives of children, youth, young adults, families, and communities living with HIV.

H.Y.P.E. is an HIV services and youth advocacy organization charged with building and growing programs that empower youth to succeed individually and to become leaders in order to transform the lives of children, youth, young adults, families, and communities living with HIV.

H.Y.P.E. envisions empowered youth who live sustainable lifestyles accomplished through the mentoring and cultivating of individuals to better manage personal health, finances, and social responsibilities. H.Y.P.E. Will equip individuals who enter its programs with the educational and personal capacities to be leaders in their communities and to advocate for themselves and for others living with HIV.

The H.Y.P.E. team is currently made up of Founder and Executive Director, LaMar Yarborough a young, gay, black male, who was diagnosed with HIV on his 19th birthday now 26, and cancer later that year in December of that same year.

H.Y.P.E.’s team is made of a working Board of Directors, and skills-based volunteers. Together they are building a suite of programs to serve young people living with HIV in the Atlanta and Metro area.

Work Description

H.Y.P.E to Empower is seeking qualified candidates to fill the Program Development Intern positions. The Program Development Interns will assist the program team in creating templates, documents, activities, and tools to support program development deliverables. The Intern may also assist in program implementation and evaluation activities, based on their background and skills. We are seeking interns from various educational backgrounds and majors.

This Intern/volunteer position is 10-15 hours/week or less (part-time) for a period of 3-6 months. The Intern position can be used to satisfy college credit or practicum hours.

Job Responsibilities

Entry level

  • Design and develop program templates and guides
  • Design and develop marketing materials
  • Develop program activities
  • Identify community resources
  • Create a resource list
  • Identify topic related guest speakers
  • Develop evaluation tools
  • Develop program reports and fact sheet templates
  • Organize and gather materials and resources
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Recognize and demonstrate sensitivity to cultural and ethnic differences
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively use all devices, equipment, computer systems required to fulfil the essential functions of this position

Advanced

  • Provide strategic advisement and oversight related to training coordination;
  • Review and help edit scopes of work
  • Help develop all financial matters regarding training delivery
  • Assist in developing tools and processes to ensure successful training delivery Supports training and tracking efforts
  • Ability to effectively use all devices, equipment, computer systems required to fulfil the essential functions of this position
  • Assist in all writing

Minimum Qualifications

Current College Students (Undergraduate or Graduate) majoring in any of the following areas: Business Administration, Education, Graphic Design, Instructional Design, Marketing, Public Administration, Public Health, or Recent Graduate.

  • Ability to work independently

  • Microsoft Office including Excel and Publisher
  • Adobe Photoshop or other similar programs

MISSION STATMENT Championing programming that empowers HIV positive youth to succeed individually and as leaders to advocate for the rights of the HIV positive community. VISION STATEMENT We envision empowered youth who are financially sustainable, lead a healthy lifestyle and have the education and leadership skills to actively lead an HIV positive community that is able to support and advocate not only for the HIV community but also educate society as a whole on HIV prevention, facts, and misnomers.

Description

About our founder:
On March 28, 2010, on his eighteenth birthday, Robert was diagnosed with AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome). In December of the same year, he was also diagnosed with Cancer. Despite these lives changing events, Robert prevailed. With much prayer and strong will he beat cancer and became HIV undetectable (controlled).

After three years of living with the virus, Robert formed his own organization, HIV Positive Youth That Pledge to Empower Themselves and Others or (H.Y.P.E). H.Y.P.E was created from inspiration, love, and compassion.

H.Y.P.E. to Empower, Inc. aims to transform the lives of children, youth, young adults, families, and communities living with HIV. H.Y.P.E.’s targeted population are HIV positive children, youth, and young adults between the ages of 13-30 years old, and their families affected by HIV.

Our comprehensive and relevant inactivates involve community services, HIV-education, academic education, counseling, medical, social, and professional support, and self and social empowerment.

In addition to our direct services for HIV positive individuals and communities, we also aim to provide our skills and expertise to persons, groups, organizations, and businesses who wish to utilize the HYPE model in targeting areas where they wish to make a difference.
