Birth Defect Research for Children (BDRC) is headquartered in Orlando, but provides information, support and parent matching to families of children with birth defects all over the nation.
BDRC also sponsors the National Birth Defect Registry, a research project designed by a collaboration of scientists, to collect data on factors that may be linked to birth defects. Registry data have been used for studies, advocacy and as a source of hypotheses about the causes of birth defects.
On BDRC's web site www.birthdefects.org, there a a Family Support Center that lists support groups that assist families who have children with different types of birth defects.
The Support Group Coordinator position would involve updating these support groups on-line and contacting each group currently on our web site about participating in the National Birth Defect Registry.

Mission Statement
According to the National Research Council, nearly 50% of all pregancies in the U.S. end in the loss of the baby or a child born with a birth defect or chronic health problem. We provide these families with reliable information on their child's disabilities, referrals to helpful resources and opportunities to connect with families who have children with similar problems.
We also created the National Birth Defect Registry that collects data on the causes of birth defects that can lead to birth defect prevention. Registry data has been used for research studies and community advocacy and presented to state and federal agencies as well as in media forums.
