Rockwood Museum seeks docents to provide its visitors with an engaging and memorable experience through the mansion, gardens and collections accumulated by the Shipley, Bringhurst and Hargraves family for 150 years. As essential guides to the treasures of Rockwood, docents will learn and share the biography of this important Wilmington family while developing an understanding of the historical importance of this villa, landscape, and artifacts. The docent program at Rockwood is an ongoing learning experience with opportunities to research your favorite topics, work with museum collections, contribute to feature exhibitions and interpretations as well as to participate in tours, programs and public festivals.
The museum will be open Thursday-Sunday for tours and most programs for the foreseeable future but additional days and events may be added.
Qualifications: Must be able to climb stairs, stand for long periods at a time and occupy your time with light historical research projects.
Volunteers must like interacting with members of the general public to provide an enjoyable experience to adults and children. Knowledge of local history, art history or architectural history is preferred but not necessary as training will be provided.
