SNAP Outreach
Help some of the over 1.1 million food insecure New Yorkers out there access nutritious food by sharing information about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the services Hunger Free NYC (HFNYC) provides. Working with organizations around NYC, the HFNYC team helps screen individuals for federal nutrition assistance programs, and helps them through the application and recertification process. Community outreach is an effective way to educate fellow New Yorkers about the SNAP program and where the closet HFNYC SNAP screening sites are to them.
This role is ideal for someone who is outgoing and friendly; comfortable talking to people they don’t know; enjoys being outside in different communities; and supports the mission to eliminate food insecurity in NYC. Must be 18 years old, or accompanied by someone 18 or older, and able to be outside for around 2 hours. Participants will be distributing information about the SNAP program and the HFNYC Benefits Access team.

Mission Statement
HUNGER FREE AMERICA is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grassroots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.
Description
HUNGER FREE AMERICA (formerly known as the New York City Coalition Against Hunger) is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grass-roots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.
Our long-term goal is not just to ameliorate the problem, but also to build the people’s movement necessary to enact the economic and public policies needed to end hunger entirely. Given that hunger drains our economy and tears at our moral and civic fabric, we know that eliminating it will boost the nation both economically and spiritually. Towards that end, we’ve adopted the motto: "Ending hunger lifts us all."
