Canvas for Measure A in Alameda: Support Housing for Vulnerable Seniors!
ORGANIZATION: Sierra Club San Francisco Bay Chapter
Please visit the new page to apply.
The Sierra Club has endorsed Yes on Measure A on the April 9th, 2019 special election ballot to support the development of the Alameda Wellness Center at Crab Cove. This center will repurpose an existing building as 80-90 units of Senior Permanent Supportive Housing to provide care and housing for seniors who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Sierra Club opposes Measure B, also on the April 9th special election ballot, because it does not create or fund new open space . East Bay Regional Parks District has stated that the abandoned building site at Crab Cove is "not suitable for park expansion." The best thing for people and the planet is the adaptive reuse of the buildings as housing.
Volunteers are needed to help canvas to push for YES votes on Measure A and NO on Measure B in Alameda to prevent our neighbors from falling into homelessness and take homeless seniors off the streets.
If you would like to volunteer, you can plug into the Yes on A / No on B campaign to canvas neighborhoods of Alameda:
*Thursdays; 3/7 and 3/14 from 4pm-6pm
*Saturdays; 3/9 and 3/16 from 10am-2pm
*Sundays; 3/10 and 3/17 from 10am-2pm
Volunteers meet at 1611 Lafayette St., Alameda, 94501 to get canvassing materials and go off to canvas in pairs. A leader from the campaign will provide you with a 15 minute training prior to canvassing to go over protocol, campaign messaging, and answer questions.
*More canvasing help is needed outside of these times before the special election day on April 9! Volunteers are encouraged to canvas outside of these hours at their convenience. The Yes on A / No on B campaign can provide canvassing materials and assistance at any time.
