Village Harvest is a Bay Area volunteer organization that helps people share their gardens to reduce hunger with local fruit. Since 2001 volunteers have picked millions of pounds of healthy fruit for food banks from the abundance in backyards and historic small orchards.
Our Tuesday volunteer team harvests fruit from homes in the central and west San Jose area most weeks year round, 9 am - 12:30 pm. This season you'll pick oranges, lemons, grapefruit, and other fruit to assist low income families and seniors. Volunteers will be able to take home delicious fruit seconds from the harvest.
This is a fun, outdoor event with light exercise; perfect for adults of all ages and teens (age 12 and up with their parent, 14 otherwise). There are many tasks that go into each harvest, strength or climbing are NOT required!
The starting location varies with each harvest, volunteers will drive or carpool between 4 or 5 homes. The starting location and other details are emailed a few days prior to the event.
Village Harvest organizes 10 to 20 harvests every month in locations in the South Bay and Peninsula; learn more and sign up for events through https://www.villageharvest.org .

Mission Statement
Sharing our gardens and talents to strengthen our community: Village Harvest brings together neighbors and community organizations to provide food for people in need, promote sustainable use of urban resources, and preserve our agricultural heritage and skills.
Description
Village Harvest is a volunteer organization in the San Francisco Bay Area that harvests fruit from homes and small orchards for local food agencies to assist people in need. We also provide education on fruit tree care, harvesting, and food preservation.
Since our founding in 2001 volunteers have picked and donated more than 4 million pounds to assist hundreds of thousands. Instead of going to waste abundant fruit becomes healthy food, and our volunteer harvests provide important life experiences for children and families, assistance for seniors, and community connection for a greater good.
