Support access to digital art resources in Bushwick - volunteer with POWRPLNT !

POWRPLNT is a space where the digital arts community engages the next generation of creators. It functions as gallery space, internet lounge and an environment where people from all backgrounds may learn the skills necessary to express themselves creatively in today’s networks. We aim to make the digital world accessible, personal and more human.

POWRPLNT organizes digital art educational workshops and activations to engage youth and artists in interest driven learning focused on democratizing and supporting diverse leaders within arts and technology.

We create the space to learn new digital languages for creative expression.

Our first brick and mortar space Bushwick in Brooklyn, NY is an open-to-all computer workspace and venue for classes, art shows and performances. The courses, often led by local artists, focus on tools and techniques of digital art production. Youth participants attend classes for free, while adults are encouraged to support with donations.

POWRPLNT empowers individuals to bridge the digital divide, by organizing community interactions that elevate digital literacy and encourage expression via technology. Technology is a right, not a privilege.

Our volunteers help us actualize our mission by supporting our open computer lab hours and programming run by POWRPLNT ’s volunteer teaching artists. All volunteers have the opportunity to propose their own classes or programs and get hands-on experience as a facilitator/arts educator! I n addition, volunteers will get a chance to help manage workshops that cover topics like HTML basics, Graphic Design, Music Production, DJing and more.

SUPPORTING OUR COMPUTER LAB

Lab volunteers keep our doors open! They supervise the computer lab, help with other necessary tasks around the space and engage with visitors, especially youth in the community. We ask volunteers to commit to between 2-4 regular shifts per month.

  • Greet, sign-in and engage with guests
  • Share information on our programming, volunteer program, and encourage visitors to sign up for our mailing list
  • Supervise the lab and promote a positive atmosphere while guests use our computers and resources
  • Help with purchases of merchandise, memberships, and printing services

SUPPORTING OUR EVENTS

We rely on volunteers to staff our space during events, while offering in exchange the opportunity to attend our many workshops, performances, and other programming for free! We ask volunteers to commit to attending one event per month.

  • Set up the space and assist the event facilitator or teaching artist in getting settled
  • Check in guests and manage merchandise purchases
  • Introduce the space and engage with visitors and answer questions about our programming, volunteer program, and mission
  • Enjoy the event!
