VOLUNTEER

At this time, we are seeking to fill the position of:Event Ambassador (volunteer, up to 10 positions available)

Become an Event Ambassador:
Are you interested in the environment and the work that Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) does? Are you comfortable speaking to members of the public about environmental issues and various environmental programs? If so, consider becoming an Event Ambassador for CVC!

Position Description:
Event Ambassadors assist CVC with outreach to watershed residents at local community events, such as fairs and festivals. Event Ambassadors will attend various events alongside CVC staff in order to grow the community’s awareness of CVC role in the community and its programs.

This position will involve:

  • Learning about CVC and sharing it with the public;
  • Promoting CVC events and volunteer opportunities;
  • Endorsing CVC’s goals and our programs;
  • Engaging the public through interactive and educational activities;
  • Setting-up and dismantling displays with promotional materials;
  • Collecting contact information for follow-up purposes;
  • Encouraging people to sign-up for CVC’s newsletters and event notifications.

If interested in this position, there is a mandatory in-class training session on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 from 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm at CVC Head Office (1255 Old Derry Road, Mississauga). Approximately 3 hours of at-home training is required prior to the April 7 training session.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Time Commitment: This is a year-long program, however most events fall between April - June. Expected commitment is a minimum of four events. Shifts will generally be 3 to 5 hours long. Requirements:

  • Confident when speaking to the public;
  • Enthusiastic and friendly;
  • Interest in environmental issues;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Motivated and a self-starter;
  • Minimum high school education;
  • Must have access to transportation;
  • Knowledge of or experience with Credit Valley Conservation an asset;
  • Other languages an asset;
  • Vulnerable sector screening required.

SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS

Training Provided:

  • Introduction to CVC;
  • Health and safety protocols and best practices;
  • On-site event management and leadership training;
  • Task-specific training;
  • Some at-home training required (approx. 3 hours) (online Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act training + review of CVC policies and procedures);
  • In-class training date is Tuesday, April 7, 2020 from 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm and will take place at CVC’s Head Office (Mississauga).
