We put together and take backpacks out and give them to people living on the street.
We operate by the mantra that a person's circumstances does not diminish their value as a human being or make them any less deserving of kindness and compassion. Something as simple as a backpack can give a person a boost of hope and show them, they are not alone.
The next TWO volunteer opportunities are:
March 24-27, 2019: we will be putting together and giving out more than 100 backpacks to the homeless. The following volunteer opportunities are available:
- March 24, 2019, volunteers are needed to pack and assemble the backpacks.
- March 25, 26 and 27, volunteers are needed to go out on the streets, with the team, to give out, backpacks.
- Volunteers for this need to be comfortable interacting with the homeless, as team members often spend time talking to the people living on the street that we help.
- Volunteers are required to attend a 30 minute orientation before their shift. This helps us maintain a safe environment for everyone.
- Volunteers are needed to help assemble the backpacks.
- Volunteers are needed to out on the streets with surveys and giveaways, along with the packs and sleeping bags.

Description
Backpacks For The Street is a 501c3 public charity, and national grassroots movement to bring compassion and dignity to people living on the streets, by providing backpacks filled with life necessities, including: food, clothing, toiletries, hygiene products, gloves, emergency thermal blankets, handbooks with local food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters, and much more.
Since March 2018, BFTS has given out nearly 2,000 backpacks, over 14,000 maxi-pads and tampons, and more than 8,000 Mylar blankets.
We are out on the streets every day. Homelessness doesn’t take a sick day, a holiday or a snow day. Nor do we. It is 24/7. There is always someone in need of assistance.
