Internship: Housing Program Advocate

Duties/Responsibilities:

Providing housing resources, advocacy and case management

• Advocating for families in need of housing (transitional, rapid re-housing etc.)
• Responsible for client intake and review while adhering to regulations, protocols and procedures
• Case Management of 2-3 client case load
• Documentation into agency data-base (Apricot)
• Liaise between client and various service providers and programs
• Assist clients in obtaining services such as financial literacy/education, employment, educational training/resources, legal assistance, and counseling services
• Tour and observe various agency departments (Outreach, child advocacy, shelter, legal advocacy, attend ex-parte or 12 month hearing, later in life/elder advocacy, domestic violence task force meeting, etc.) to ensure knowledge and understanding of agency resources (as available)

Qualifications:

• Background Check/Fingerprint Check
• Strong communication and writing skills
• Good listening & verbal/non-verbal communication skills
• Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals
• Ability to multi-task and work in fast pace environment
• Compassion and understanding of trauma-informed care
• Dependability
• Successful completion of required training program

Commitment:

• Adhere to a regular schedule as set forth by intern and supervisor

Training:

• Approximately 20 hours of initial training to include: domestic violence, sexual assault, active listening, crisis intervention skills, policies & procedures
• Approximately 40 hours of online Victim’s Assistance Training
