  1. IMPACT

By providing over 700 veterans, service members, and military family members the opportunity to participate in our workshops and performances, we have seen statistically significant increases in their self-esteem, resiliency, and artistic skills.

Our Events Volunteers are the ones who make this happen! These volunteers are there to ensure our freshly graduated comics have an audience to see their first performance. They also provide our workshop participants with a point of contact and allow them to focus on beginning the journey towards learning a totally new art form. By interacting directly with our participants, audience members, and teaching artists, our Events Volunteers have a direct impact on the quality of ASAP’s programs.

2. OPPORTUNITIES

Our Event Volunteers have the opportunity to work with our Programs Department in the following ways:

  • Running the show at ASAP’s performances. This includes:
    • Using your event planning skills to make sure each event is properly set up
    • Engaging with guests by selling tickets and merchandise
    • Improving your fundraising skills by assisting guests with donations
  • Connecting with participants at workshops. This includes:
    • Providing administrative support to ASAP staff
    • Expanding your own artistic skills by observing the workshop and helping as needed
    • Learning from teaching artists by setting up the classroom and organizing materials
3. QUALIFICATIONS

While there is no prior experience necessary to start out as an ASAP volunteer, we think you will love this position if:
  • You enjoy being part of the behind-the-scenes magic at events - even if that means showing up an hour early
  • You are energized by engaging with performers, participants, and guests in a warm and friendly way
  • You have a passion for arts education in the military community
  • You like to go with the flow and help out wherever you're most needed
  • You have experience selling merchandise and tickets (This is not a requirement, it's just nice to have)

4. Benefits

ASAP understands and appreciates your dedication! As such, we are committed to providing:
  • Free admission to events and performances during your volunteer shift
  • Ability to observe workshops during your volunteer shift
  • The opportunity to meet ASAP teaching artists who include poet laureates, successful comedians, actors, and business owners
  • Discounts on tickets to all other ASAP events and performances. These include our comedy shows, storytelling performances and more!
  • 50% off ASAP merchandise including limited edition T-shirts
  • Invitation to ASAP volunteer appreciation events
  • The opportunity to develop and maintain relationships with members of the military community
  • A positive and supportive environment for you to grow

Mission Statement

We help Veterans, Service Members, and Military Families reintegrate into their communities through the arts.

Description

The reintegration of our nation's veterans is not just a veterans issue. It involves veterans and civilians, community arts organizations and local health providers, military recruiting and VA care. It requires social, physical, and artistic outlets just as much as it demands traditional medical care.

Through our collaborative, community-driven, and deeply focused program model, we are forging a new path for veterans to reintegrate into civilian life, and for our communities to welcome them home. We offer comedy, storytelling, writing, visual arts, and music classes to veterans, service members, and military families to support them reintegrating into their communities.
