Companion volunteers provide essential social and emotional support to patients and their families by being there to comfort, care, and listen, while placing emphasis on living each day as vibrantly and as fully as possible. During regular visits, volunteers do activities with the patient such as reading the newspaper or books, taking walks, listening to music, sharing stories, or providing friendship by just being present. If a patient is living in a private home, volunteers may also offer support or respite to the caregiver and/or practical help around the home (light meal preparation, errands, etc.)
Companion volunteers are the true embodiment of Ecumen Hospice's belief that each person continues to have great significance and deserves respect and honor in their final season of life.
Location: We serve patients in their residence, which may include private homes, skilled nursing, assisted living, or independent living facilities. Many of our patients live in Ecumen owned or managed communities.
We have a high need for volunteers in the West Metro (Minnetonka, Wyzata, St Louis Park)
