Autrey Mill is perfectly suited to social distancing.

Autrey Mill is operated by the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve Association, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. Financial support is entirely from grants, donations, memberships, and program fees. And, as with all non-profits, there is never enough money. That’s where volunteers fill in. Their skills and labor allow Autrey Mill to accomplish incredible feats on a tight budget.

With 46 acres of woodlands, trails, gardens, historic buildings, classes, events, collections of artifacts and oral histories, fundraising needs, etc. - the list of volunteer options is almost endless. But here are some areas where help is needed.

  • Trail building and maintenance
  • Nature & heritage education
  • Garden upkeep
  • General "handyman" work
  • Experienced carpenters, electricians, plumbers, painters, engineers, architects, landscapers
  • Fundraising ideas and events
  • Greeters & docents
  • Grant writing
  • Marketing, graphic design & printing services
  • Technical /computer assistance
  • Special events and festivals organization and staffing
  • Preservation and cataloging of historical items
  • Oral history project
  • Musicians, artists, and storytellers
  • Office tasks
  • "Grunt workers" of all ages

Consider providing time as a Volunteer. The time spent will provide vital support to on-going operations while leaving you with the great feeling achieved from being a meaningful part of the community and its environmental and historic preservation.

Mission Statement

Our mission: To create a destination and educational resource that inspires exploration, appreciation, and preservation of the natural environment and local history.

Description

We're the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve Association, a Non-Profit (501)(c3) organization that operates the preserve and historic buildings and provides all the environmental, heritage, and event programming that is offered to the public.

The beginnings of Autrey Mill date to a 1988 grassroots effort by community advocates to save the woodlands from development, prevent the loss of the old mill site, and halt the demolition of historic buildings situated on the property. In 1989 the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve Association, Inc. was formed as a non-profit organization to operate, protect and improve the preserve.

The beautiful Autrey Mill of today was built over a 24-year period under the leadership of our non-profit organization's Board and its talented staff, with the vital help of generous public and private supporters, and by harnessing the indispensable work of volunteers. We continue to improve the facilities while protecting the natural environment and preserving the history of the area, creating a local asset and regional attraction.

Autrey Mill operates and survives with community support in the form of donations, membership, grants, business sponsorships, and volunteer labor.

Please consider becoming a member or making a donation to help us keep Autrey Mill operating and vibrant.
