General Description

Learn about recycling, hazardous waste, composting and more from regional experts and discover ways to inspire others to reduce waste at this 6-week course. Optional field trips included. Participants receive a training handbook, engage in hands-on demonstrations, hear presentations from local and regional experts, and go on field trips to relevant sites.

Graduates agree to volunteer 30 hours putting their skills to work to help others learn the three Rs:

  • Reduce the amount of natural resources used
  • Reuse goods
  • Recycle what cannot be salvaged

Graduates have the opportunity to staff informational booths at community events, make presentations, and work on special projects in their neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces.

Thursdays, April 11 - May 16
6:30 - 9:00 p.m.

Location: Inver Grove Heights Middle School (8167 Cahill Avenue East, Inver Grove Heights)

Cost

$30 fee covers course materials and field trip transportation. Scholarships available upon request.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties will vary with each volunteer activity. Overall, every Master Recycler represents Dakota County and should show up on time and leave when expected; be courteous and helpful; and, follow-up with event coordinators if needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • You must be 18 or over to complete the class
  • Participants must complete the 6-week Master Recycler/Composter class before volunteering
  • The program extends over a 6-week period with one mandatory 3-hour class each week

Minimum Time Commitment

  • 18 + hours of coursework
  • 30 hours after course is completed

Spring Registration Deadline

Deadline for applications is April 8. To ensure a positive learning experience and adequate support for volunteers, class size is limited to 30 people on a first-come, first-serve basis. All applicants will receive notification of their status in the class and next steps.
