ESL VOLUNTEER - REFUGEE CENTER

ORGANIZATION: Utah Refugee Center

This class serves a substantial number of Somali women who are eager to better their English abilities. This class is attended by around 20 women each session. Class meets once every two weeks; class starts at 11 AM, ends at 1 PM, and there is always a socializing session afterwards with food and tea provided by community leaders.

There are currently four amazing volunteers that serve this class. We are looking to grow our team, though, in order to provide the most supportive and beneficial class sessions to our students as possible. All teaching and student materials are provided by us, the Refugee Education and Training Center (RETC). We just ask that volunteers are willing to communicate efficiently and effectively, come to class prepared, and actively participate in the constant effort to improve our practices.

Thank you so much for your interest in our program! These women and the volunteers that are with this program have fostered a truly amazing environment, and I hope to soon welcome new members of the team.
