Purpose of Position:
Level 2 Adoption Counselors represent Tree House with empathy, ensuring that adopters have the knowledge they need to best care for their new cat. This position is public-facing; these volunteers will work closely with adopters to help them find their best match when adopting a cat, review medical information with the adopters, and complete shelter to home transition counseling. With the support of this position, we are able to increase the amount of adoptions we can do and the amount of one on one support each adopter receives. By becoming an Adoption Counselor, you will help have a big impact on the life of a shelter animal - helping a cat find a forever home!
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greeting and surveying what the adopter is looking for
- Get to know our resident cats
- Match adopters with a good match
- Educate the public on basic cat care and behavior
- Review medical records with adopters
- Conduct shelter to home transition counseling
- Other duties as requested
Qualifications:
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Knowledge and love of cats
- Quick learner
- Flexible
- High energy
- Good judgement
Training Volunteer Will Receive:
- Adoption Counseling 101 (as level 1 counselor)
- Cat Handling 101
- PetPoint training
- Medical Review training
- Shadowing of 5 different adoptions during shelter to home transition counseling
