Help Knowbility help accessibility conference goers! Volunteer at our conference that promotes training on accessibility so that we can create a more inclusive digital world!

Did you know that many websites are not made accessible? Often people with disabilities who use assittive technology in order to browse a site cannot browse because the site is not compatible for a screen reader or able to be navigated by only using a keyboard. We are teaching designer, developers, and others how to make things accessible! Help us help them!

Details

When : March 14 - 17th

  • Shifts: 7am - 10am - registration.
  • 9am - 1pm - general/varying roles.
  • 1pm - 5pm - general/varying roles.
  • Evening Event - March 14th - TBD roles
  • Evening Event - March 15th - TBD roles
  • Evening Event - March 16th - TBD roles

Where : Saint Edward's University Austin, TX

Roles :

  • Check In/Registration - help participants check in and get their badges
  • Assist - help direct attendees to where they need to go. This includes helping people with disabilities who might not be able to see or have mobility impairments.
  • Monitor - help monitor sessions by standing at the door telling people what session is in that room, collect feedback cards at the end of each session. Help people with disabilities access online feedback forms, or fill out physical feedback forms.
  • Admin - scanning feedback cards into our system and emailing them out to people who participated in that session.
  • Setup and Tear down - set up registration tables, hang banners, post yard sign around the campus etc.

Description

Knowbility provides advocacy, education, and training in pursuit of the mission of equal access to digital technology. Knowbility is a leader in ensuring equal access to the communications tools that are required for all people to access education, employment, and social opportunities. Assistive technologies and workforce needs have created unprecedented potential for people with disabilities to live independently. This potential can only be realized, however, as the technology is made fully accessible to people who use assistive technology or adaptive strategies when they access the web. Knowbility's programs are innovative, entrepreneurial efforts to raise awareness and leverage community resources to deliver training, education, and employment opportunity to youth and adults with disabilities.
