Austin Pets Alive! isn't your average animal shelter. APA! establishes groundbreaking programs that target animals most at risk. APA! transfers animals directly from the euthanasia lists and provides the treatment, training, and time needed to help these previously ill-fated animals live long happy lives.

In order to meet the most basic of needs for our dogs we take them out for a break at least once every morning between 8am-11am and once every evening between 5pm-9pm. These are the times dog walkers need to be available.

We need volunteers to help us accomplish this!

Our dogs are all "behavior leveled" with training for volunteers before each level, to make sure we are consistent with our dog training, enjoying dog walking and to keep people and pets safe.

We are currently recruiting volunteers for Sunday Evenings that can commit to volunteering 2 hours each week, between 5pm-9pm on a Monday for at least 6 months. *We are unable to offer community service hours at this time.

If you or a friend is interested you can follow the below steps to begin volunteering. Feel free to share!

First step to Volunteer to walk dogs at APA! is to complete a volunteer application - www.austinpetsalive.org/get-involved/volunteer/new/

Thanks and we hope to see you soon!

About Austin Pets Alive!

Location:

Town Lake Animal Center, 1156 W. Cesar Chavez St., Austin, TX 78703, US

Mission Statement

To keep Austin a no-kill city by serving as the safety net to the city shelter's animals that would otherwise be killed, saving the most medically and behaviorally challenged pets.

Description

Please visit our website listed if interested in volunteering!

Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) is a 501(c) 3 (nonprofit) organization run almost exclusively by dedicated volunteers.

We are implementing innovative and progressive programs in Austin and Central Texas after studying the best practices of other cities who are no-kill or are in the process of becoming no-kill.

We have created our own "road map" that uses a lot of experience from many different places as well as incorporating the unique characteristics of the Austin area. Austin is rich in prevention resources such as spay/neuter, compared to other cities, and we are filling the gaps in service areas that have been historically under-represented, such as high volume, high quality adoption.

We are currently focused on helping the healthy and treatable pets who are at risk of being killed in a shelter, by rescuing the pets who are at the greatest risk and helping owners who are having problems so great that they need to surrender their pet(s) to a shelter.

In our rescue program, to not duplicate work of other agencies, we focus solely on the pets who have already been passed over by other groups and the shelters’ adoption programs and only take the healthy and treatable pets who are about to be killed and have no other options.
