East Harlem Tutorial Program offers a variety of volunteer opportunities through our public charter schools, after-school, and summer programs. The volunteer programs range from subject-matter tutoring, providing students with homework help, mentoring, and preparing high school students for college success. Volunteers support our scholars by preparing them for academic success, encourage their social enrichment, and help them gain the confidence they will need to succeed in college and in life. East Harlem Scholars Academies Volunteer Opportunities
After-School Club Aides- The learning and fun doesn’t stop when the school day ends for our scholars enrolled in our public-charters schools! Come support our elementary and middle school scholars in either academic (small-group tutoring or homework help) or enrichment activities (art or dance) in their after-school clubs.
Academic Tutors and Homework Help- Tutor our elementary and middle school students to succeed in a variety of subjects. Volunteers should feel confident tutoring in a kinder through 8th grade level subjects such as Math, English, Science, History, and others. Volunteers can also support during homework help club working in small groups with students.
School Time Helpers- Support our teachers and staff by providing additional help and coverage during recess and lunch time or lending a hand with some of the operational needs of the school. Examples of some of the needs might be helping out at the front desk, keeping our rooms and storage spaces organized with necessary materials, or sorting paperwork. Volunteers can also support in the classroom as a teacher’s aide working with students one-on-one or in small groups.
Commitment : All volunteers are asked to commit to once a week
When : Flexible times Monday through Thursday 10 a.m to 5:30 p.m., Fridays 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., or Saturdays 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. Your schedule will depend on the program you are interested in. Learn more about our programs on our website: ehtp.org/volunteer

Acceptance is contingent upon successful completion of medical and criminal background checks. We match volunteers to one of our established programs based on schedule preference and interest demonstrated through the phone interview after submission of an application.

EHTP’s mission is to prepare students with the academic skills, strength of character, and emotional well-being to excel in high school and college, lead in their communities, and realize their best possible selves.
Description
EHTP operates out-of-school time programming that provides academic enrichment, college-ready resources and social-emotional support for students in after-school programs for grades K-12 and operates 5 public charter schools known East Harlem Scholars Academies. EHTP would not be the organization that we are today without the help and support from our amazing volunteers. Volunteers empower our scholars, prepare them for academic success, support their social enrichment, and help them gain the confidence they will need to succeed in college and in life.
