The 3rd Annual Steam Train Half Marathon and 2 person relay is the only road race against a turn of the century steam train in the US! Runners race the train while families and friends can ride the train and cheer on the runners as you leave the station together!

Proceeds benefit Community Health Resources (CHR), a leading comprehensive behavioral healthcare nonprofit serving over 27,000 Central and Eastern Connecticut individuals and families every year!

We are looking for help with logistics with operating this event. We need help with:
  • Directing runners to stay on route/parking attendants/Deep River Station crowd directors
  • Motor vehicle traffic/runner safety
  • Directing cars in the parking lot
  • The registration desks
  • Water stations
What time do I need to be there?

The first wave of volunteers will arrive between 6 and 6:30 am for registration and set up duties. All volunteers need to have reported and been at their post NO LATER than 7:15 am.

Do I have to stand the entire time?

No. On course, volunteers are welcome to bring folding chairs and sit whenever runners are not approaching or passing by. Station volunteers will have ample time to rest.

How long do I have to stay?

The course closes at 11:00 am so all volunteers should be finished and on their way home no later than 12:30 pm and probably even earlier. If you are only able to volunteer for a portion of the race please let us know and we can schedule accordingly.

Does this count as community service hours?

YES !!! Team MAD Charities is a registered 501(c)(3) Charity and as such you are able to count the hours as community service under most circumstances. Check with whoever is in charge and if they have questions they can contact Team MAD Charities directly at 860-830-6091 or teammadcharities@cox.net
