Bworks

BWorks' Earn-A-Bike, founded in 1988, offers a free program in which children attend a series of hands-on courses to learn problem solving, bicycle safety and maintenance, and responsibility. At the end of this 6 week session students will have earned a bicycle, safety light, lock, and helmet. Volunteer instructors lead children through lessons in fixing flat tires, nutrition, safety, and more. No experience is necessary, as volunteers are trained on-site with the support of our veteran instructors.

BWorks established its Earn-A-Computer program in 1996 to provide a way for area children to improve their computer literacy and learn how to achieve goals. In this free 6 week class students learn how to create a presentation, basic computer programming, and internet safety all while working towards their very own desktop computer. Volunteer instructors will begin by assisting in class and learn the curriculum from our trained instructors. No prior computer knowledge is needed, just a passion for education and a desire to enhance the lives of young people.

Bworks' is currently piloting a blogging program. Please join us if you are interested in helping youth blog!

Mission Statement

St. Louis BWorks inspires youth to pursue their dreams, care for the world around them and explore new possibilities through experiential learning.

Description

BWorks transforms donated bikes, computers, and writing and illustration supplies into much more, providing free programs that improve the lives of hundreds of local children each year. As kids learn to fix flat tires, to code a simple game, and communicate their ideas on paper, they gain confidence and practical life skills- and earn either a refurbished bike, computer, or published book for their efforts.
