** IN ORDER TO REGISTER AS A VOLUNTEER FOR THIS EVENT YOU MUST EMAIL MARY.OWENS@RALEIGHNC.GOV AND SHE WILL SEND YOU THE LINK TO REGISTER.**

Event Description:
Rock the Block is an event to create more cohesive communities while spreading awareness for the services and opportunities provided at local community centers. The event will feature the Recreation Take Over equipment including nine square, gaga pits, giant Jenga, basketball skilltastics, ladder golf and more. We will have a DJ spinning tunes, arts and crafts, a photo booth, and food trucks for purchases. We will end the event with a glow-in-the-dark laser tag game separated by various ages.

Volunteer Duties:Volunteers will assist with setting up and breaking down at the beginning and end of the event. The event is from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. and we are open to having volunteers at least available for the span of the event. We appreciate if they can come early/stay late for set up/break down. During the event, volunteers will run different games and activities, take pictures in the photo booth, assist with art and crafts, and engage with participants.

Volunteer Impact:Volunteers will help to create an organized event and provide opportunities to engage with local citizens. Volunteers will help run various games and assist patrons in the different activities available. We are seeking friendly volunteers that enjoy interacting with children and/or citizens within the community.

Work Environment:Most of the event will be outdoors (weather permitting) and other activities will be set up within the community center. We are hoping to have around 100 people in attendance therefore it could be crowded, but we will have opportunity to spread the event around the center and its grounds.

Special Details:Volunteers will need to be dressed in comfortable, appropriate clothing and closed toe shoes such as sneakers. Parking can be found within the community center parking lot at Tarboro Road.

Volunteer Requirements:We are asking for volunteers to be at least 14 years of age, as we plan to have assistance from teens within the RYC program. We do not expect parents to be in attendance with volunteers. Volunteers under 18 years of age must have an adult sign their release form. All volunteers must sign a release form.

Per department policy this event cannot count towards court-appointed or suggested community service hours.

Registration as a volunteer is first come, first served. If interested in registering a group, please email mary.owens@raleighnc.gov . We require a list of names and their email addresses to hold spots for groups.
