About the YWCA LIFT program:
The YWCA LIFT program was established in 2015. It’s an educational and employment training program. It has two different tracks in order to better serve the community. The Full LIFT is geared towards those needing assistance in obtaining their GED. The Full LIFT is a 12-week program that offers lessons in Math, Language Arts, Computer Education, Job Readiness, Financial Literacy and vocational training in Customer Service & Sales. Fast track LIFT is a 4-week program that assists those that have their HS diploma/ GED but need more job related skills. The program offers lessons in Computer basics, Job Readiness, Financial Literacy and the vocational training in Customer Service & Sales.
LIFT:
LIFT has two part-time Instructors and a full time Career Coach that facilitate the classes. The purpose of both tracks of LIFT is to assisting students in self-sufficiency and obtaining their career goals. A national certification from the National Retail Federation is accessible with both tracks. YWCA-LIFT pays for the fees for all students to that the exam. LIFT provides a safe environment free of judgment or prejudice. Students are valued and given an individualized employment plan, so that they can see the steps involved in obtaining their goals. LIFT provides knowledge that will last a lifetime.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in composing a handy resource book for the students of LIFT.
- Assist with preparing and filing student files.
- Assist Instructors and/or Career Coach with classroom activities
- Assist with locating services and resources in the El Paso County that will come to the YWCA LIFT classes to conduct presentations.
- Follows all YWCA policies and procedures, including safety procedures always.
- Present new ideas that could improve the quality of life for the students of LIFT
- May perform other tasks as needed by Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Submit volunteer application
- Submit to a background check prior to placement through the YWCA El Paso del Norte Region and receive clearance of all background checks submitted
- Must be friendly, patient, and understanding
- Have good communication skills and practice confidentiality
- Some working knowledge of computers
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required
AVAILABILITY:
- Mornings and afternoons Mondays thru Fridays.
