WHY WE NEED YOU: Currently in Dallas County, only 40% of 3rd graders read at grade level. A student who cannot read on grade level by the 3rd grade is 6 times less likely to graduate by the age of 19 than a child who read proficiently by that same time. Readers 2 Leaders needs your help to increase the number of students reading at our above grade level by working one-on-one with struggling readers.

What is Readers 2 Leaders: Readers 2 Leaders (R2L) is a local non-profit organization serving the West Dallas area with the mission to develop and grow the reading skills of underserved Dallas children (ages 3-12) so that they succeed in school and graduate prepared to live productive lives. R2L is currently serving over 400 students per year with our Team Read Programs. Team Read is a reading intervention program for students that need additional reading support to reach grade level. We have In-School, After-School, and Summer Programs.

What will I do as a volunteer: Reading Buddies (volunteers) are a key part of our programs and provide the essential one-on-one reading assistance to a student once a week (or more as the volunteer is able). As a Reading Buddy, you will help a child develop their reading skills through phonics practice, leveled-texts, and reading high-quality literature with them. Above all, you will be a positive role model that in encouraging and makes reading fun!

When and where can I volunteer: We have several Buddy Reading openings still available in our After-School Programs.
