We are currently looking for someone who can help coordinate different aspects of creance conditioning. How many people can say they have flown a great-horned owl or a red-tailed hawk? Do you want to be one of those lucky few? Before we can release these athletic birds they must be in top physical condition. We accomplish this by creance flying and conditioning. Creance conditioning is the use of a long line, called a creance, to test a raptor's ability to fly and to exercise the bird to get it back into top physical shape before release.

We are in need of someone who is eager to learn about helping raptors specifically creance flying. No experience is necessary, we will show you what to do. We would like to have a volunteer who would like to oversee and receive feedback on a bird's progress. Work with our vet tech on deciding what birds need to be flown, keep track of how each bird is doing and then to discuss with our vet tech on when a bird can be released back into the wild. The Creance coordinator will also contact volunteers who would like to release the bird.

Mission Statement

Soarin'Hawk Raptor Rehab's mission is to conserve our raptor population through education and rehabilitation.

Description

Soarin' Hawk is a not for profit wildlife rescue service established in 1996 to serve northeast Indiana's injured or orphaned birds of prey. We are fortunate to be able to offer our patients a blend of modern veterinary science (volunteer veterinary services, x-ray, laboratory, and aggressive post surgical physical therapy) and the ancient art of falconry (creance reconditioning, "hack" releases of orphans, and honing of hunting skills when needed).
