ORGANIZATION: Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan

The Customer Service Representative performs the necessary functions of the position, which include supporting the service needs of clients. Specific responsibilities are assigned. Some Computer knowledge is required in this position. Good Communication skills and bilingual (English-Spanish) is ideal.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Deal with the clients via emails, over the phone, or face to face
  • Check messages, Answer all calls, return calls as needed
  • Greet customers warmly and determine problem or reason for calling
  • Scheduling Appointments in our data base
  • Place food orders for the Mercado Food Hub
  • Creating labels and sorting client files
  • Updating bulletin boards
  • Making copies of regularly used documents and recipes; keeping our recipe racks and resource table stocked
  • Maintaining and tracking temperature logs
  • Data entry, keeping track of donations received and distributed
  • Printing volunteer logs as needed
  • Sending out confirmation letters & thank you letters to our volunteers as needed
  • Handling product recalls

  • Be dependable!

Extra Skills

  • Attention to detail
  • Basic computer skills
  • Good communication skills: written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrate patience when communicating with the clients; be able to maintain composure even if the clients is being rude
  • Good listening skills, as much of the communication with clients is done over the phone
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to varying situations when dealing with clients

For more than 40 years, Gleaners Community Food Bank has been "feeding hungry people and nourishing our communities." Last year, Gleaners distributed 42 million pounds of emergency food to 499 partner soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston, and Monroe counties.


Of every dollar donated, Gleaners uses 97 cents for food and food programs. One dollar provides three meals for a hungry neighbor.
