ORGANIZATION: The Worldview Project

The Worldview Project is looking for volunteers with different cultural backgrounds to work as Cultural Ambassadors for our new Cultures in the Classroom schools program. The goal of the program is to promote cross-cultural awareness and understanding among children in 3rd to 5th grade in numerous elementary schools in San Diego. Your responsibility as a Cultural Ambassador would be to visit schools and give 45-minute presentations about everyday life and customs in your home country and what it was like for you growing up there. We will supply learning materials and set the basic structure of the session, whereas you will add the content of the presentation based on your own cultural experience.

We are looking for volunteers who are very reliable and interested in working with children, possessing excellent social and presentation skills, as well as good skills in English. Because it is an elementary school-based program, the Cultural Ambassador Volunteers may require to be background checked and take a tuberculosis test. The Worldview Project will reimburse you for these costs once you have served a portion of your commitment to the program. You will work closely with our Schools Program Coordinator, who will help you plan the presentation.

The preferred commitment to this position is until the end of the school year 2019-2020. The number of presentations to be given is 1 to 5 a month, depending on the need. The candidates must embrace and have a passion for the Worldview Project's mission to promote greater cross-cultural awareness, understanding, and engagement. Also, availability during the daytime is required, as the volunteer engagement happens during school hours.

The Worldview Project has a wonderfully diverse staff and a large number of ongoing projects. When you write to us, please detail your background, education, interests, and experiences. We look forward to receiving your application and thank you for your interest with our organization!
