Volunteer Services

Patient & Family Care

Companionship Support

Visit with patients and/or their caregivers to provide companionship support by talking & reminiscing with them, reading aloud to them, listening to music together, giving a manicure or pedicure, praying with them, help celebrate holidays and special occasions, etc.

Caregiver Relief

Sit with the patient so the caregiver can take a break from their care-giving responsibilities to get out of the house, go to church, run errands, take a nap, spend time with other loved ones, go to their doctor appointments, etc. Stay with the patient so the caregiver may attend the River City Hospice Caregiver Support Group or Bereavement Support Group, and Volunteers can also take care of children so the caregiver can spend some time alone with the patient.

Household Helper

Assist the patient and caregiver around the house by running errands, preparing light meals, doing light housekeeping, cut the grass, care for plants, feed or walk pets, help with simple maintenance projects, decorate the house or room for the holidays, wash the car, build wheelchair ramps, etc.

Bereavement Support

Bereavement Volunteer offers mental and emotional support to bereaved family members both before and after the death through visits, correspondence, phone calls, counseling, and participation in the Bereavement Support Groups and Memorial Services.

Behind the Scenes

Administrative Support

Assist the staff of River City Hospice with filing, copying, data entry, answering phones, creating packets, inventorying and unpacking supplies.

Correspondence Team

Assist with creating and/or writing encouraging cards and letters to our patients and their caregivers.

Tuck-In Team

Members of the Tuck-In Team make periodic telephone calls to our patients or caregivers to see how their day has gone and to offer them encouragement and companionship support. The Tuck-In Team is especially essential in offering reassurance and support to patients that do not have a full-time or live in caregiver.

Our volunteers serve patients and their Families in their Homes, Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Centers, Personal Care Homes, and Hospitals

Mission Statement

We believe that each patient's life experience is unique - many of the problems, coping strategies and emotions are not. Utilizing continuity of care allows for an earlier hospital discharge and provides the patient an opportunity to live the rest of their life the way they choose .... at home with family and friends.
