Purpose: Team Leaders teach volunteers proper scientific measurement techniques and collect important data on our urban trees while ensuring their team of volunteers are safe, comfortable and having fun.
Responsibilities:
- Attend a minimum of one inventory per season
- Effectively lead a group of 3 to 5 volunteers in collecting qualitative and quantitative tree measurements within a designated park area
- Supervise members of the team, ensuring safety and appropriate tool utilization.
- Provide a comfortable and welcoming environment to all volunteers on your team
- Act as an ambassador for Casey Trees
Ensure data is being collected accurately and in a timely manner
Support/Reporting: Team Leader Volunteers will report to the Research Associate and Volunteer Coordinator.
Casey Trees staff will be on site at all Park Inventory events and are there to aid volunteers in data collection, safety, and enjoyment responsibilities. CT Staff also assure quality control for all data and will offer advice on correct measurement techniques.
Requirements:
- 18 years of age or over
- Attend at least one Inventory event prior to Team Leader Training
- Ability to stand for 2-3 periods of time and including movement from kneeling, bending, walking, standing etc.
Time Commitment: Thursday evenings 5:30pm - 7:30pm, and/or Saturday mornings 10am - 1pm
Training:
Class and field training - A two part Team Leader Training that is offered twice a year at the beginning of the fall and spring seasons.
Shadowing - Attend two Inventory events where you shadow a Team Leader Mentor through all the steps of the day.
Lead & Evaluate - At your third Inventory event you will lead a team of volunteers with a Team Leader mentor shadowing you. At the end of the event, both your mentor and you will complete a peer evaluation.
