Purpose:
Team Leaders teach volunteers proper tree planting techniques while ensuring their group of volunteers are safe, comfortable and having fun.
Responsibilities:
- Attend a minimum of one tree plan ting per season
- Guide a small team of volunteers (2-4 individuals) at community tree plantings through the proper steps of how to plant a tree
- Ensure safe use of tools and personal safety of volunteers on your team
- Provide a comfortable and welcoming environment to all volunteers on your team
- Act as an ambassador for Casey Trees
- Properly plant all trees assigned to your team
Support/Reporting:
Team Leader Volunteers will report to the Volunteer Coordinator.
Casey Trees staff will be on site at all Community Tree Plantings and are there to aid volunteers in planting, safety, and enjoyment responsibilities. CT Staff also assure quality control for all trees and will offer advice on correct planting technique according to the most recent best management practices.
Requirements:
- 18 years of age or over
- Attend at least one Community Tree Planting event prior to Team Leader Training
Time Commitment: Fridays /Saturdays mornings 8:30 am - 1:00 pm, September - December & March - June
Training:
Class and field training - A two part Team Leader Training that is offered twice a year at the beginning of the fall and spring seasons.
Shadowing - Attend two Community Tree Planting events where you shadow a Team Leader Mentor through all the steps of the day.
Lead & Evaluate - At your third Community Tree Planting event you will lead a team of volunteers with a Team Leader mentor shadowing you. At the end of the event, both your mentor and you will complete a peer evaluation.
